19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court since March of 2023.

The win also signifies he has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and regular reactions on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a final set.

The opponent defended four early-game break points in a competitive final set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
